Birillo Umbrella Stand by Giotto Stoppino for Rexite, Italy, 1980s
CHF 140
A Birillo umbrella stand designed by Giotto Stoppino for Rexite, Italy, introduced in the early 1980s and still recognised as a classic of Italian postmodern design.
The piece is marked “BIRILLO 1200-1300”, “design Giotto Stoppino”, “Made in Italy”, with “mod. dep.” and “US des. pat. pending” moulded into the base. Its cylindrical form, rounded top edge and large oval opening give it a clean, functional and highly recognisable silhouette.
Made from glossy smoked black technical polymer, the stand is light, durable and practical for daily use. The dark translucent surface gives the simple form a little depth and shadow, while the rounded edges keep the object soft and understated rather than purely functional.
A practical Italian design object for hallway, entrance area, office or studio — minimal, useful and quietly iconic.
