LBL Table Lamp – Bauhaus Lineage, Design after Marianne Brandt, ca. 1955

IAn industrial table lamp by LBL, associated with Lindner & Co. Leipzig and later VEB Leuchtenbau Leipzig, produced around the mid-1950s.

The design sits firmly within the Bauhaus lighting lineage of the 1920s and 1930s. Its domed shade, curved chromed arm and compact circular base reflect the functional clarity of early modernist lighting. The model is often associated with Marianne Brandt and Hin Bredendieck, whose Bauhaus and Kandem designs shaped this vocabulary. For this specific lamp, however, no archival attribution is confirmed, so the safest wording is: design after Brandt / Bredendieck, Bauhaus lineage, attribution unconfirmed.

The lamp combines a chromed steel arm with dark Bakelite base and shade. Bakelite was widely valued in early electrical and industrial design for its hardness, heat resistance and insulating qualities, making it particularly suitable for lighting.

A fine, stable hairline crack is visible at the Bakelite base. It does not affect function and is discreet in overall appearance. The underside carries an institutional label from Kreiskrankenhaus Rudolstadt, adding an additional historical layer to the object.
