Adjustable GKS Knapstein Floor Lamp, Germany 1960s–1970s

Adjustable Floor Lamp by GKS Knapstein, Germany, late 1960s–1970s

CHF 350

A refined adjustable floor lamp by GKS — Gebrüder Knapstein Leuchten, Germany, dating most likely from the late 1960s to 1970s.

Gebrüder Knapstein Leuchten is a recognised German lighting manufacturer, known for technically well-resolved residential lighting with a strong focus on function, proportion and clean construction. This floor lamp reflects that approach clearly: a slender chrome-plated stem rises from a weighted circular base, while the articulated side arm is defined by two parallel horizontal bars.

The lamp has a precise, technical character without feeling overly industrial. It is practical, balanced and quietly elegant — very much in line with post-war German lighting, where function and proportion often do the talking.

The fabric shade softens the chrome construction and gives the lamp a warm, usable light. Depending on the bulb used, the light effect can be adjusted from warmer and softer to cooler and brighter, as shown in the photos. Its size and shape suit the lamp well, creating a calm silhouette suitable for a living room, reading corner, workspace or bedroom.

A partially preserved, heat-darkened manufacturer label on the fitting confirms production by GKS / Gebrüder Knapstein Leuchten.
