Mid-Century 1960s Mogens Koch MK-16 Folding Safari Chairs for Cado – Oiled Beech & Black Leather
CHF 2400
A refined pair of MK-16 folding safari chairs designed by Mogens Koch and produced by Cado, Denmark. With their sculptural elegance and functional clarity, these chairs embody the essence of Danish modernism.
Discovered in a forgotten corner of a shed in Austria, this pair was carefully restored to its original specifications. The reupholstery was carried out by a respected saddler in Dresden, using high-quality black cowhide leather (Rindsleder) and adhering precisely to the original measurements and design details. The leather is smooth, unscarred (keine Vernarbung), and still firm—freshly reupholstered and not yet broken in.
Originally conceived in 1932 as a reinterpretation of campaign furniture, the MK-16 was later embraced in the 1960s for its minimalist elegance. Mogens Koch, a student of Kaare Klint, designed the chair for ecclesiastical use—foldable, portable, and enduring. Today, it stands as a mid-century icon admired for its clarity and craftsmanship.
