Art Deco Brutalism – Paul Wood’s Candlestick Trio in Chromed Brass
CHF 660
Three sculptural candlesticks with skyline energy, designed by Paul Wood in 1928 and produced sometime between the 1950s and 1970s. Acquired in raw brass form 35 years ago from Nuremberg’s Trempelmarkt—back when treasure hunts involved elbow grease and a little luck.
Last week, they emerged from professional chroming with a finish so reflective it may violate modesty laws. A before photo is included in the listing—because what’s a dramatic transformation without the “before”?
Sculpture first. Candleholder... only in emergencies.
These aren’t just candlesticks. They’re what happens when Art Deco geometry collides with Brutalist swagger. Paul Wood’s stepped silhouette echoes early skyscraper dreams—angular, layered, unapologetic. Their machine-age symmetry and cinematic presence feel lifted straight from Fritz Lang’s Metropolis. The chrome finish adds a dose of sci-fi glamour.
