So-called Capstan Inkwell, named after the rotating capstan mechanism used on ships for winding ropes or anchor chains.
Elegant neoclassical design with tortoiseshell lid and silver inlay. Original inner glass inkwell present.

Marks / Signatures: Fully hallmarked on lid and body: maker’s mark (unreadable), lion passant for sterling silver, leopard’s head for London, date letter “d” for 1919.
Condition: This piece is preserved in its original condition with a naturally aged silver patina and has not been polished or restored, allowing the authenticity of the 1919 craftsmanship to shine through.
The hinge is firm with no play; the lid closes flush and securely. The inkwell is preserved in original unrestored condition.
